Accurate room presence detection without a camera

The Shelly Presence Gen4 in White uses radar sensing to detect people even when they are sitting or standing still. It can track up to six people and divide a room into as many as ten configurable detection zones, giving lighting, heating, ventilation and security automations more useful information than a conventional motion sensor.

Designed for indoor rooms up to approximately 8 × 8 metres, it combines presence and ambient-light sensing in a compact enclosure. Place it on its weighted stand, fix it to a wall with the included mounting hardware, or use adhesive mounting where appropriate. The sensor requires continuous 5 V USB-C power.

Practical applications

Use separate zones to control lighting in an open-plan room, keep office or reading-room lights on while somebody works quietly, stop HVAC equipment when a space is genuinely empty, or add presence information to a security workflow without installing a camera.

Compatibility and setup

Connect directly over Wi-Fi for Shelly app and local-network use, or pair through a compatible Zigbee or Matter ecosystem. Bluetooth is available for setup and supported integrations. Zigbee and Matter operation require a compatible hub or controller. Position the sensor with an unobstructed view of the occupied area; the recommended installation height is about 2 m with an approximate 15° tilt.
